Crashbox! PPE and mountain sports equipment with varying degrees of wear and tear in the stress test

In a live demonstration with tearing tests on the ‘Crashbox’, the PETZL Technical Institute will shed light on typical questions relating to route construction and operational inspection in artificial climbing facilities.

Following the specified tests, there will be an opportunity to test the residual strength of material brought along - provided it can be installed in the ‘crash box’. Please contact us in advance so that we can carry out tests efficiently with the materials you bring with you.

Most PPE textile lanyards are labelled with a minimum breaking strength of over 20 kN and are therefore also certified. But how do external influences such as abrasion or other mechanical damage affect the strength of textiles? Certain techniques (knots) can also reduce the strength extremely.

In the live demonstration, the PETZL Technical Institute will first test some classic sling knots and then scrutinise the strength of webbing slings.

Do you have old, used or extremely (over)loaded PPE?
Following the specified tests, you will have the opportunity to check the residual strength of climbing equipment you have brought with you - provided it can be installed in the crash box.
